The Virginia Yearbooks Digital Collection is an ongoing project in partnership with Virginia's local public libraries, LYRASIS, and IMLS to make public high school yearbooks available online.

Search Tips

To search multiple yearbooks for a personal name or keyword:

  1. Go to Virginia Yearbooks Digital Collection
  2. Under Media Type, make sure texts is selected (not collection)
  3. Beneath the search box, select Text contents
  4. Enter your search in the search box. To limit your search to a specific name, use quotation marks (ex: "Susan Smith"). If the search box already displays a school name, enter your search following the school name.
  5. On the search results page, select a title. Your search results will be highlighted.

To search a single yearbook, open the book and select the magnifying glass on the left.

To download a yearbook to your device:

  1. Open the title you wish to download
  2. Scroll down to Download options. Select a file type, such as PDF or Kindle.

To download a high-resolution image of a specific page:

  1. Scroll down to Download options and select Show All. 
  2. Find the link that ends in "jp2.zip" and select View Contents.
  3. A page will open with links to high-resolution images of the scanned book. Select or right-click a jpg link to save it to your device.
  • To limit your search by publication year, high school name, or donating public library, use the filter options.
  • To sort your results, use the sorting menu at the top of the screen. Creator sorts by high school name, and Views sorts by number of views. Use the arrows to reverse the sorting direction.
  • To change the appearance of your results, use the Show as list and Show as thumbnail icons in the top right.
