Divorce records pre-1918 may be located in county records or in the Legislative Petition collection. The Library of Virginia cannot make copies of any vital records pertaining to divorce from 1918 to present, however there may be court records pertaining to divorces in the Chancery Records Index. Researchers will need to contact the Office of Vital Records if they need an official divorce certificate:
