How to use the LVA catalog

Viewing Catalog Records

Catalog Records

  • Select a catalog record to open the full view of the record.
  • You can save records you are interested in by selecting the thumb tack icon 
    • Please note: you must be logged into your account to use this feature. View the Manage Your Account tab for more information.
  • To return to the results page, select the X at the left of the page. You can also scroll through catalog records using the arrow buttons  above and below the                 X             button.
    • For mobile devices, select Back to results list in the upper left corner to return to the results page.

Send to

  • You can use the Send to section to export the information to a spreadsheet, generate a bibliographic citation, copy a link to the record, print, or email the record.

View online

  • If an item has a digitized version available, it will say available onlineon the search results page and the catalog record. 
  • Select the link to view the digitized item. You can select the Available Online link from the search results page, or open the catalog record to locate the link.
  • The link text may say "Digital Version(s) Availability," and then a descriptive title, or just "View." Both examples are shown below.

Find it

  • This Find it section shows the location of the item(s). 
  • View the Library Collections tab to learn more about locations, and the Request Items tab to find out how to request items from the closed stacks. 


Links

  • Some archival collections will include a finding aid. Select Finding Aid to open in a new window.
  • Display Source record is for staff use.


Details

  • The details section provides the bibliographical information, including call number, title, creator, creation/publication date, notes, and subject headings.
  • Creator, subject, and series entries are hyperlinked. You can use these links to find materials with the same creators or subjects, or to find materials that are part of a series. Selecting one of these hyperlinks will generate a new search.

Refine Your Results

Filtering Results

  • Use the filters under                           Refine your results on the left hand side of the page to narrow your results by collection, subject, author, resource type, and publication year.
    • To access filters on mobile, select the filter icon filter icon on the right hand side of the page, under the search bar.
  • To exclude filters from your search results, hover over the filter and select the red checkmarkexclude icon
  • Once you have applied a filter, hover over the filter and select the lock icon lock icon to lock it in place for future searches.
  • To remove a filter, select the to the right of the filter. 
  • You can add as many filters and limiters as you want.
